Historical thought patterns and power structures are often the cause of discrimination and injustice. Through development policy education work in Germany, SODI discusses global issues with pupils, young adults, and education officers, both online and offline.
Through the concept of global learning, we are pursuing a rethink to show people different perspectives and to strive for a just world for all. With multimedia offerings like Hi[story] of Food, we explore today's production conditions in the context of global, historical power relations. Local answers to global questions will also be explored by the honorary members of the film collective "Draufsicht Global". The young teams in Berlin (Germany) and Bamenda (Cameroon) are working on common themes such as gender, sustainability, racism and global injustice, and in their own videos they show multifaceted perspectives across countries. You can find out more about the wide range of educational opportunities on this page.
The future belongs to the next generation. That is why we want to contribute to providing young people with the skills they need to reflect on their role and responsibility as citizens of the world - and to derive opportunities for action for a just and sustainable planet. A way out of global crises, social injustices, ecological disasters, and economic imbalances is only possible if fundamental changes take place in patterns of production, consumption, and thought.
Countries in the Northern Hemisphere must recognise the developmental needs of countries in the Southern Hemisphere and at the same time limit their own excessive consumption of resources. Countries in the Northern Hemisphere must value diverse perspectives and promote equal participation of the Southern Hemisphere in processes of change. Countries in the Northern Hemisphere must address and recognise (historical) conditions of global injustice as postcolonial. In this sense, all countries are "developing countries" - not just those designated as such.
